🌱My Bangkit 2024 Journey: From Challenges to Growth (First Month)

Joining Bangkit Academy 2024 has been a transformative experience, especially in my journey to deepen my understanding of Cloud Computing. As an Information Systems student at UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, choosing the Cloud Computing learning path in this program has opened up new perspectives and valuable experiences. Bangkit is not just a technical course—it's a journey that combines technology, collaboration, and personal development.

In this first month, I faced numerous challenges that pushed me out of my comfort zone. However, with the support of mentors, instructors, and the Bangkit community, I’ve been able to overcome each challenge with determination and enthusiasm. I’ve come to realize that cloud computing is more than just a technology; it is the future that’s reshaping how we work, innovate, and collaborate.

Opening and Orientation: A Strong Start

Bangkit 2024 kicked off with a highly energetic Opening Session. The Director of Government Affairs & Public Policy, Indonesia at Google Indonesia set the tone by inspiring us to embrace a growth mindset and tackle technological challenges in this digital era. This session laid the foundation for the entire program. During the Technical Briefing, we were introduced to the technologies we would be learning and how to apply them to real-world projects.

One of the most exciting parts was the Guest Speaker session, where industry leaders from major tech companies shared their experiences and insights. Through Instructor-Led Training (ILT), I didn’t just learn from textbooks but also gained real-world insights from professionals in the cloud industry. They provided a deeper understanding of how cloud computing is applied in daily life.

Weekly, we had Consultation Sessions, where mentors and instructors gave valuable feedback and advice, helping us stay on track with our learning goals. These consultations have been incredibly helpful in overcoming both technical and personal challenges throughout the learning process.

Capstone Project: Applying Knowledge to Real-World Problems

One of the biggest challenges we encountered was the Capstone Project. This project is designed to test our ability to solve real-world problems using the knowledge we've gained. It's where all the theory and practice come together. The Capstone Project provided an opportunity for us to work in teams, think creatively, and apply our cloud computing skills to solve industry-relevant problems.

This project taught me the importance of teamwork, effective communication, and collaboration. Every team member played a crucial role in the project's success, and we learned to support each other while leveraging each other’s strengths. It wasn’t just about technology—the Capstone Project also taught us valuable soft skills needed in the workplace.

Activities During the First Month

Here’s a summary of what I’ve been working on during the first month of Bangkit Academy 2024:

Week 1: Introduction and Fundamentals

  • Day 1-2: We kicked off by learning the basics of Cloud Computing, setting up our learning environments by installing software and configuring tools. We also built strong connections with fellow Bangkit students, mentors, and facilitators through introductory sessions.
  • Day 3-4: We accessed learning materials from Dicoding and began the matriculation course. The focus was on foundational programming concepts and Programming Logic, which set a strong groundwork for further learning.
  • Day 5-6: We explored GitHub and started learning basic Version Control to manage our source code. This experience helped us understand how to collaborate effectively using version control systems.

Week 2: Web Programming & Cloud Fundamentals

  • Day 1-3: In the second week, we dove into Web Programming, covering both frontend and backend development. We also learned about Cloud Computing Fundamentals from Dicoding.
  • Day 4-5: Using Skill Boost, we explored Google Cloud services such as Compute, Storage, and Networking, gaining hands-on experience with cloud technologies.
  • Day 6-7: We completed several cloud-related labs and quizzes, which helped us grasp the best practices in cloud computing. This hands-on work reinforced the technical skills we were learning.

Week 3: Implementation and Best Practices

  • Day 1-3: In the third week, we transitioned to implementing what we had learned. We completed practical labs in Google Cloud, where we worked with services such as Compute Engine, Cloud Functions, and explored network configurations and storage buckets.
  • Day 4-5: We focused on advanced cloud concepts such as IAM roles and security configurations, which are critical components in cloud architecture.
  • Day 6-7: We reviewed our progress and received feedback from mentors. This feedback was invaluable for improving our skills and understanding how to implement cloud solutions effectively.

Week 4: Study Cases & Challenge Labs

  • Day 1-3: We tackled study cases and worked on challenge labs that simulated real-world cloud computing scenarios. We focused on cloud optimization and cost management, essential skills for cloud practitioners.
  • Day 4-6: We collaborated with peers on cloud computing challenges, learning how to solve complex tasks while working together. These challenges helped us solidify our understanding of the cloud environment.
  • Day 7: Throughout this time, I consistently updated my logbook, tracking my daily progress and noting key milestones.

Reflection and Gratitude

This first month at Bangkit Academy 2024 has been an incredible learning experience. It’s not just about developing technical skills—it’s also about personal growth. I now feel more prepared to face future challenges, both technically and personally. All of this would not have been possible without the guidance and support from our mentors, instructors, and the Bangkit team.

I’d like to express my gratitude to everyone involved—from the speakers, mentors, and the behind-the-scenes team. Your support and guidance have been invaluable.

Bangkit is more than just a training program—it’s a learning community where we are encouraged to grow, innovate, and create solutions for a brighter future. With the spirit of collaboration and determination, let’s continue to Rise and Move Forward Together toward a future filled with possibilities in technology. 🚀💡
